Each year, millions of Jews celebrate Passover, which commemorates the flight of the Jews from slavery in Egypt. Around the same time each year, millions of Christians observe Good Friday, which recalls the story of Jesus' crucifixion by the Romans.
Toward the end of Friday's service at St. Francis of Assisi, parishioners pass a large cross. "That's a big piece of wood, but it is lighter when everyone else joins in," said the Rev. Anthony Garibaldi. "So that's really what it means. Your crosses are lighter in life when you have other people help you to carry them."
A large cross is presented to the congregation at St. Francis of Assisi as part of the church's Good Friday services. The custom was started several years ago.
