Supporters rejoice as accused priest Uriel Ojeda is released on bail

Supporters of the Rev. Uriel Ojeda were rewarded for waiting in the darkness Monday as the Catholic priest posted bail and was released from the Sacramento County Main Jail.

The Rev. Uriel Ojeda, at center holding a bag, was released just before 10 p.m. from Sacramento County Main Jail. His attorney, Jesse Ortiz, beside him, worked to free the accused priest on bail.

The crowd that gathered in hope of seeing the Rev. Uriel Ojeda freed on bail Monday from the Sacramento jail sang songs in Spanish and floated balloons in support of the accused priest.

It took two years and about $10 million, but the 12,000 local members of the Church of Scientology in Sacramento have a new house of worship.

Among the amenities of the new Church of Scientology facility in downtown Sacramento is a chapel, above. There are also seminar rooms, classrooms, dozens of private rooms for spiritual counseling, a bookstore and a cafe.

The building that used to be the Ramona Hotel at Sixth and J streets has been completely refurbished.
